Suspect waves to officers as he eludes them

Bail was set at $150,000 for a 35-year-old Bremerton man in Superior Court Aug. 15 arrested on warrants from 2022 when he waved at officers as he eluded them.

He’s charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude and driving under the influence. He faces 16 years in prison and $35,000 in fines.

Court records say Kitsap deputies responded July 1, 2022, at 9:39 p.m. to Highway 3 at Baltic Lane NE for an erratic driver who appeared to be intoxicated. The driver also was speeding as he went 15 miles in 13 minutes when it should have taken 17 if driving the speed limit. It also had its lights off. It was going in the wrong lane on Silverdale Way.

Later the vehicle ran a red light, and its headlights were being turned off and on. The vehicle reversed down traffic, and the driver waved at officers as he drove past them. A spike strip was used, along with a pursuit intervention technique stop by officers. Despite that collision, the driver continued on, which was a hit-and-run. He then backed into a patrol car.

When finally apprehended, the suspect had tinfoil with partially melted Percocet containing fentanyl on it, along with a lighter and “tooter” drug smoking device.

Rape charge

A 37-year-old Port Orchard man faces two life sentences and $100,000 in fines after being charged with rape and sexual assault Aug. 13 in Kitsap County Superior Court.

Court records say the victim reported April 8 to Seattle police that she had been raped in multiple locations by the man during an almost two-year relationship. She feared retaliation for reporting him.

They met in Seattle on Capitol Hill, had drinks and went to a friend’s house, where the first rape occurred after the suspect choked her out. During their relationship, she said he knew when “he would go farther than she was willing to go.”

The violence escalated and included torture. The last time her hands were duct-taped, and he held her upside down with water from the bathtub running up her nose. He grabbed her feet and zapped them with a lighter. He also scared her with a knife.

She tried to use their safe word, but that didn’t work. He said he wanted to wrap a piano wire around her neck. He choked her, and he told her later he thought he had killed her and would need to get rid of her body. While rapes occurred often he sometimes apologized.

Witness knifed

A 39-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Aug. 14 charged on four counts after cutting a witness with a knife and taking off on a bicycle.

Bail was $80,000. He faces life in prison plus six years and 90 days, along with $66,000 in fines. He is charged with first-degree burglary with a deadly weapon, harassment threat to kill, malicious mischief and resisting arrest.

Court records say Bremerton police responded to Ford Avenue at 2:21 p.m. Aug. 13. The victim said her ex-boyfriend was going to kill her. He had multiple knives, including a large Bowie-style fixed blade. A witness said the victim has been harassed by the suspect at night, as he hides on her property. He also has sent threatening messages. She saw the suspect on her doorcam and called police. He broke down the door.

The witness and victim went into a bedroom but the suspect broke in there and cut the witness with a knife. The victim’s daughter came in and the attack stopped.

A doorcam shows the suspect chasing the witness out of the house. The witness went to a nearby park to see if his child was safe. He saw the suspect ride by on a bicycle. He ignored demands to stop, but he did once a weapon was drawn. When caught the suspect had an iridescent colored metal balisong or butterfly knife on him. He also had suspected meth, heroin, fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.

Threat to kill

A 21-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Aug. 13 charged with harassment threat to kill and violation of a court order, both involving domestic violence.

He faces six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Court records show Port Orchard police responded to Portland Avenue at 6:12 p.m. Aug. 12. Police know the suspect because he calls 911 repeatedly and threatens police. He told dispatch, he “will shoot law enforcement” the next time they try to arrest him.

In this instance, he was inside a building yelling at his mother, who has a protection order against him. He was drunk and said he would kill her if she called cops on him again. She said she feared for his life.

After being arrested he was in and out of consciousness so he was taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale.

$150K bail

Bail was set at $150,000 for a 46-year-old Bremerton man in Superior Court Aug. 15 arrested on warrants.

The man was charged with assault, stalking and violation of a court order. He faces 16 years in prison and $35,000 in fines.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded May 28, 2023 at 11:44 a.m. to the 9100 block of Steele Creek Loop NE in Bremerton.

The victim said she went to retrieve child support money at her ex-husband’s residence. He invited her inside and then pointed a gun at her face. She started to scream but was grabbed and pulled to the couch. He asked her who she was having sex with. He covered her nose and mouth so she could not breathe. He shot the weapon twice, showing her it was just an airsoft gun.

She escaped, but then was trapped in a bedroom. She screamed but was told he’d kill her if she didn’t shut up. He wrapped his hands around her throat. He let her go and started crying but said he’d kill himself rather than go to jail if she called 911. He then grabbed his keys and drove off.

The victim said for years he has put tracking devices on her car, so she recently bought a tracker locator to search her car daily for such devices. She had a protection order against him.

Spits on officer

A 22-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Aug. 19 and is facing four charges.

Two counts of assaulting of an officer carries a term of five years in prison and $10,000 in fines maximum for each. He’s also charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault domestic violence, each carries a max of one year in prison and $5,000 in fines.

Court papers show Port Orchard police responded to three locations Aug. 16 at around 5:20 a.m. A dad reported his daughter was hit and pushed by her boyfriend, who was also tearing up the house. The dad also was hit.

When placed in handcuffs, the suspect spit on an officer. “I felt a spray of saliva on my face and could smell alcohol heavily on his breath,” the police report says. He spit on the officer again then tried to kick two other officers before being transported to jail.

Witnesses said they had been drinking all night and the suspect woke up and urinated in the crib where the girlfriend’s child sleeps. In his rage the boyfriend damaged items in the house, and then later while in the police car.
