Tom Swolgaard has filed as a candidate for the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.
Swolgaard is currently a commissioner on the park district’s five-member board.
Candidate Filing Week got underway Monday. Swolgaard is the first person to officially become a candidate for a parks’ position in this year’s election, and the incumbent is hoping to retain his Position 3 seat.
A majority of the park board seats will be up for election this year. Voters will choose representatives for Positions 1, 3 and 4 in November.
Park commissioners serve six-year terms, and the positions are unpaid. Commissioners are responsible for setting policy for the park district and adopting an annual budget and capital plan.
