There new cases of COVID-19 were added by the Kitsap Public Health District Thursday, leaving the countywide total at 187 cases, according to the district’s daily update.

A total of 9,047 residents have tested negative — of those tested, the positive test rate is below two percent. In the last two weeks, a total of 17 cases have been added, a sharp jump compared to the entire month of May which saw 11 new cases.

In addressing a sudden drop in negative test results According to the Washington State Department of Health, mistakes were made in reporting negative COVID-19 tests, which is why the negative test results in Kitsap County are significantly lower than previously reported.

“Because of an error in a work-around established to handle the high volume of negative test results, we have been including negative antibody test results along with negative molecular test results in the total negative tests we’ve been reporting since April 21,” a DOH statement reads. “Our intention was to only include molecular test results. This has incorrectly inflated our reporting of individuals who have tested negative for COVID-19 by 13 percent.”

Of the 187 cases, 13 have been reported on Bainbridge Island, 60 in Bremerton, 31 in Central Kitsap, 39 in North Kitsap and 44 in South Kitsap. Two coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed by Kitsap Public Health District as well.

0 – 19: 11

20 – 29: 34

30 – 39: 24

40 – 49: 31

50 – 59: 43

60 – 69: 22

70 – 79: 15

80 and older: 7
