Safeway stores in the Kitsap region have been targeted for liquor theft, including the store on Bainbridge Island.

Suspects in the spree of thefts, however, were apprehended during their last caper.

Safeway stores in Kitsap were on alert after a string of liquor thefts at the stores on the night of Aug. 30.

After hitting the Bainbridge Island and Bremerton Safeways over the night of Sunday, Sept. 2 and the early morning of Monday Sept. 3, the alleged thieves were caught and arrested in Port Orchard.

The three women arrested were identified as Allante Miles, Devitta Dorsey and Ariana Windon. All three were in their early 20s.

Bail was set at $50,000 each.

On Bainbridge Island, at 12:34 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, the management at the Safeway on High School Road received a phone call from a Bremerton Safeway that three suspects from the Aug. 30 thefts had just left their store.

Employees at the island Safeway immediately went to their shelves and found that various bottles of Crown Royal whiskey were missing from the boxes. One Safeway employee said he noticed three women matching the suspects’ description at the store around 10:30 p.m. that night.

The three females were caught on camera entering and leaving the Safeway on High School Road, however, the camera focused on the liquor aisle was not recording at the time.

It is suspected that they removed Crown Royal from their boxes and filled their large purses with bottles of Canadian whiskey.

Five bottles of Crown Royal Reserve valued at $274.95, three bottles of Crown Royal Black valued at $113.97, and three bottles of Crown Royal Purple valued at $95.97 were stolen.

The total value of all the whiskey with sales tax was $615.42.

Officers were able to collect evidence from the Bainbridge Island Safeway.

Island police responding to the theft notified other officers in the county and said that the thieves may likely be heading to Port Orchard.

Port Orchard officers were ready for the suspects. All three women were arrested and booked into the Kitsap County Jail for retail theft.
