Councilman Matthew Tirman will take over as deputy mayor of the city of Bainbridge Island on July 1.

Tirman replaces Councilwoman Leslie Schneider in the post.

The council made its appointment to the deputy mayor position at its meeting on June 11. Tirman was the only nominee for the job, and was elected unanimously.

“We’ll take you out back in a couple weeks and do the official handoff,” Mayor Kol Medina told Tirman after the vote.

Tirman is a first-term councilman who represents the island’s South Ward.
