WEST SEATTLE – The Bainbridge gymnastics team reclaimed the Metro League championship at the title meet Friday at West Seattle High School.

Marie Welsh had her undefeated streak snapped in the all-around competition when she came in second to West Seattle’s Nina Fogle.

She scored a total of 36.78, .27 lower than Fogle’s total of 37.05.

The junior finished first on the bars with a 9.675, but placed second in the vault with a 9.3, second on the beam with a 9.0 and second on the floor with a 8.8.

Sophie Wenzlau placed fifth in the all-around while Lauren Fleming placed sixth.

The Spartans finished with a team total of 162.93 while the Wildcats finished second with a score of 156.7.

The boys dropped their first league game of the season with a 68-67 loss to Seattle Prep.

Bainbridge was down by double digits for most of the game before scoring 29 points in the fourth quarter to close the gap considerably.

After Steven Gray hit a three pointer, Bainbridge intentionally fouled Prep with 10 seconds left.

The Panthers split their foul shots and as Nick Fling grabbed the ball, he was fouled sending him to the line for two shots, which he made both.

Seattle Prep then turned the ball over and Bainbridge got it back to work it to Gray, but his shot rimmed out.

The Spartans went for the offensive rebound, but a foul was called.

The Panthers split their shots, but it was enough for the win.

Gray had 25 points and nine rebounds while Cody Gibler had 22 points and eight rebounds.

Caleb Davis had eight points.
