Voter turnout for the 2020 Presidential Primary in Kitsap County has now surpassed 20 percent.
A total of 20.25 percent of eligible voters — that’s 35,955 registered voters in Kitsap — have returned ballots to the Kitsap County Elections Division in Port Orchard for counting on Election Day, March 10.
County election officials report that 8,511 ballots were accepted Monday, March 2. That’s the highest total for any day since ballots for the presidential primary started coming back Feb. 24.
Monday’s hefty haul of ballots followed Saturday’s primary vote in South Carolina, and a rebound to Democratic hopeful Joe Biden’s campaign.
Tuesday, March 3 is the biggest date on the calendar for the 2020 Presidential Primary, with 14 states (Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia) holding primaries on Super Tuesday, plus the American Samoa caucus.
Washington state — along with Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri and North Dakota — will cast votes for presidential candidates on March 10. The North Dakota firehouse caucus is also on March 10.
