More than 35 percent of Kitsap County voters have already made their choices in the 2020 Presidential Primary.

And so far, more Kitsap voters have cast ballots in the 2020 Presidential Primary than in the 2016 Presidential Primary.

According to the Kitsap County Elections Division, a total of 9,831 ballots were accepted Tuesday for processing. It was the highest single-day total of returned ballots since the county began accepting ballots on Feb. 24.

A total of 62,471 ballots have been returned for counting through Monday.

In 2016, a total of 58,408 ballots were counted in the Presidential Primary.

This year’s Presidential Primary may also see a higher turnout than the last one in 2016, which was held later in the election cycle, on May 24.

In 2016, turnout hit 36.9 percent in Kitsap.

Turnout now stands at 35.16 percent for the 2020 Presidential Primary.

Kitsap County has approximately 177,655 eligible registered voters, though that number may change due to new, same-day voter registrations.

The first local vote tally for the Presidential Primary will be announced by Kitsap County at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.
