The city of Bainbridge Island lost two key employees last week when both resigned on the same day.

Two workers in the city’s planning department — Development Administrator Chris Wierzbicki and Code Enforcement Officer Meghan McKnight — submitted letters of resignation on Wednesday, March 20.

Their exits come when the planning department is already short two people. City officials also said that permit activity is on the rise, and McKnight largely supervises permit processing.

Planning Department Director Kathy Cook is currently planning to fill the new vacancies.

Wierzbicki has worked at the city of Bainbridge Island for six years. He manages divisions in engineering and planning and oversees reconstruction work for city streets and parks.

He leaves Bainbridge Island to take a job with the road services department of the King County Department of Transportation.

McKnight has worked for Bainbridge Island for 13 years dealing with code enforcement, accounting and permitting. She recently accepted a job with the city of SeaTac as its code compliance program coordinator.
