Bainbridge Island’s legendary liveaboard David Ullin has something to smile about this week after winning the first prize in the annual historical museum’s raffle.

The Bainbridge Historical Museum held its raffle drawing at Monday, Dec. 3. Ullin’s name was the first drawn, winning him a check for $4,556.

“I thought it was a good chance, I bought six tickets,” Ullin said.

And with his cheerful grin after winning the money, he said he knew exactly what he will use the it for.

“Dental work,” he joked. “I think it will probably use it all up.”

More than 2,000 tickets were sold, raising approximately $23,000 for the island’s historical museum.

“I got six tickets for $50,” Ullin said. “So I made a profit.”

Each ticket was placed in a box. They were mixed and concealed as one by one Bainbridge High senior Jenny Han pulled out all three tickets.

Han is a volunteer at the museum.

Ullin wasn’t the only winner that day.

Islander Julian Prosser’s ticket won an iPad. Kevin Broderick also came away with a handcrafted cherry hall tree donated by McKinnon Furniture and valued at $2,599.
