Washington State Ferries halted service on the Bainbridge Island-Seattle ferry route just before 10 p.m. Saturday, July 8 as police responded to an “active shooter” aboard a vessel in Bainbridge’s Eagle Harbor.
Bainbridge Police Chief Matthew Hamner said late Saturday the shooter was aboard a boat close to the Bainbridge ferry terminal.
Authorities are asking people to avoid the shoreline along Eagle Harbor.
City officials warned islanders of an “active shooter” event just after 9 p.m. Saturday.
City spokeswoman Kellie Stickney said the person on the boat was firing at the shoreline and officers who responded to the gunfire.
No injuries have yet been reported.
Some emergency responders gathered in Waterfront Park as the standoff continued after 10 p.m.
