A Bainbridge Island man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly being caught in the act taking up-skirt video of young women at a local grocery store.
Angus Andrew Leger, 32, of Bainbridge Island is being charged with two accounts of voyeurism after being arrested for allegedly taking up-skirt videos of young women on the island. His bail is set at $250,000.
Leger was observed multiple times at the Safeway on High School Road kneeling behind young women with his cell phone and attempting to take photographs or video with the phone’s camera. He was apprehended by island police on March 6 after police said they saw him allegedly take an up-skirt video of a high school girl in the Rite Aid on High School Road.
Police reports state the Leger struggled with officers when he was arrested.
He was initially booked on a charge of resisting arrest but is only currently being charged for voyeurism. An officer was injured while arresting Leger and was treated a local hospital.
Leger waived his right to remain silent after being arrested. He told detectives with the Bainbridge Island Police Department that he had spent the past six months taking videos of women without their knowledge. He said he took videos of “pretty, young females” for his own sexual pleasure, according to police reports. He estimated that he took 50 videos of young women.
Over the past three months he escalated his voyeurism and actively sought young females to video, police reports say.
On Feb. 13, a Safeway customer witnessed Leger allegedly kneel down behind a 15-year-old girl and take digital photographs or video under her skirt with his smartphone. He was caught on Safeway security cameras.
On Feb. 19, Leger was again observed allegedly engaging in voyeuristic activities, this time by a Safeway employee. Leger once again kneeled down behind a 22-year-old woman to take photos or a video under her skirt.
Then, on Feb. 26, a Safeway security camera caught Leger allegedly kneel behind a 17-year-old girl with his smartphone to take a photograph or video under her skirt.
Leger was under surveillance by Bainbridge Island police on March 6. He was observed following a high school-aged girl from Safeway to the Rite Aid where he once again allegedly took a photograph or video under her dress.
Leger was arrested after a brief struggle with police officers outside the Rite Aid. His cellular phone was seized as evidence.
Bainbridge Island police are asking anyone who believes that they have been victimized, or may have witnessed a male taking up-skirt photographs or video, to contact Detective Scott Weiss 206-842-5211.
