UPDATE | Morning crashes leave two injured

Two motorists were injured in separate, back-to-back accidents during the morning commute on Bainbridge Island Monday.

Two motorists were injured in separate, back-to-back accidents during the morning commute on Bainbridge Island Monday.

Assistant Chief Luke Carpenter of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department said the first accident occurred at NE New Brooklyn Road at Sands Avenue when two cars collided in the intersection.

One vehicle then continued and came to rest against a power pole.

The airbags in the vehicles were deployed, Carpenter said, and a 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after complaining of neck and shoulder pain.

The 7:20 a.m. crash blocked the road, and emergency workers cleared the scene at 8 a.m. Puget Sound Energy was contacted to repair the power pole.

Then, at 8:01 a.m., emergency crews were called to a two-car accident on Highway 305 at Reitan Road.

Carpenter said the accident apparently happened after a driver turned south off Reitan Road onto the highway and collided with a vehicle heading north.

One motorist sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, Carpenter said.

Both vehicles were removed by tow trucks.
