Kitsap County election workers counted almost 700 more ballots Friday from last week’s General Election, and two candidates for the Bainbridge Island City Council have increased their leads over their campaign rivals.

Roger Townsend now leads Dee McComb for the South Ward seat on the council by 69.7 percent to 30.1 percent.

That’s a slight uptick from the previous vote tally, which had Townsend with 69.6 percent of the vote in the race for Position 3.

Townsend currently is in front with 6,153 votes to McComb’s 2,656. There were 13 write-in ballots received.

The county added another 662 votes to the tally late Friday.

In the Central Ward matchup between Wayne Roth and Arlene Buetow, another 674 votes were counted Friday.

Roth continues to outpace Buetow for Position 5 on the city council. In the latest tally, he has 62.7 percent (down from 62.8 in Thursday’s tally) and Buetow has 37.2 percent.

Roth leads 5,562 votes to 3,297. There were seven write-in ballots cast.

In the North Ward race, the gap continues to grow between Val Tollefson and Richard “Dick” Haugan.

Tollefson has 67.3 percent in Friday’s count, up from 67.2 in Thursday’s tally, and Haugan now has 32.6 percent.

Another 697 votes in the North Ward race were counted Friday.

Tollefson leads with 6,149 votes to 2,974. There were 10 write-in ballots cast.

The next vote update by the Kitsap County Elections Division is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12.
