Of the three council races, South Ward candidate Roger Townsend has set the highest bar with a landslide win over opponent Dee McComb.

In the first vote count released by the Kitsap County Elections Division on Election Night, Townsend pulled in 67.6 percent of the votes — a margin that won’t be seriously threatened in last-minute tallies.

McComb currently hold 32.2 percent of the vote.

The first vote tally was 3,449-1,641.

“I’m very excited,” Townsend said.

“I think the voters of Bainbridge Island sent a message of wanting a cooperative and cohesive government that works for them. So I’m very pleased,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting to work with the existing council.”

McComb could not be reached for comment on Election Night.

Three seats were up for grabs for the Bainbridge Island City Council this November.

There were no incumbents. Currently holding the position for the South Ward seat is Councilwoman Kirsten Hytopoulos, who decided not to run for reelection.

Also in the running for the Bainbridge Island City Council are Arlene Buetow and Wayne Roth for the Central Ward, Position 5 seat with Roth in the front with 61.4 percent of the vote; and Val Tollefson and Dick Haugan for the North Ward, Position 7 seat, with Tollefson shutting the door on the race with 66.1 percent of the vote.
