Cross ID’s suspect
An upside-down cross tattoo under his left eye helped identify a 24-year-old Bremerton man who is a robbery suspect.
He was in Kitsap County Superior Court June 11 arrested on a warrant from March for first-degree robbery.
Bail was $250,000. He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Court records say Kitsap officers responded Jan. 10 at 4:19 p.m. to a robbery at the Hippie Hut at 5060 Highway 303 NE in Bremerton. Dispatch said a man was fighting with an employee at the doorway of the business. The injured employee said the suspect went behind the counter and grabbed vaping products.
The suspect tried to leave and the employee grabbed his rain jacket to try to stop him. He then tried to bear hug the suspect but was injured in the tussle. The suspect’s Mariners cap fell off and was tested for DNA. Video shows the suspect has an upside-down cross under his left eye, which helped to identify him.
The suspect is a registered sex offender, but his “street mom” at his address said he is a transient who only stops by periodically. The DNA returned as a match of the suspect.
Arrested 26 times
A 45-year-old Bremerton man man was in Superior Court June 11 charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Bail was $75,000. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court records show a Kitsap officer responded at 5:44 a.m. June 10 to an accident on Hansville Road. Inside was narcotics paraphernalia. Warrants were out on the suspect so he was arrested. A woman passenger was released.
Officers saw a handgun in the vehicle. The suspect had 26 arrests, and seven felony convictions.
Officer assaulted
A 47-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court June 13 charged with assaulting an officer and harassment threat to kill.
He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. Bail was $25,000.
Court records say Bremerton police responded to the 1700 block of Sheridan Road at 10:33 a.m. June 8. A mom said her son was naked inside a barricaded door of the apartment and breaking things. An officer tried to enter, but a chair and table were blocking the door.
Suddenly the son rushed out of a bedroom with a glass bottle and ran toward the door. He smashed the bottle where the officer’s head had been only moments before. “His eyes seemed wild, and he was speaking in run-on gibberish.” The officer went through the door with a shield. A detective kicked in the bedroom door. The officer with the shield pinned the suspect against the mattress with it. The suspect was placed on a stretcher with four-point restraints. In the ambulance, he tried to bite an EMT.
On April 7 at 11:50 a.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of Wheaton Way. It was the same suspect, who threatened to kill a store employee. The suspect left on a BMX bike. Officers recognized the suspect from store video.
Cameras stolen
A 41-year-old Kingston man was in Superior Court June 14 charged with second-degree residential burglary.
Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
Court records say Kitsap officers responded July 12 to the 10100 block of NE state Highway 104 in Kingston. The reporting party said she had two cameras on her property, and there had been several break-ins on the trailer and abandoned house there.
The owner said she stores items in the home that’s been vacant for 10 years. Stolen items included seven cameras worth $10,500 and $7,500 and 1,500 Match Box cars. Law enforcement identified a suspect using videos that show the license plate of a vehicle.
The suspect was arrested later when the items were found in one of his kids’ bedrooms. The $18,000 in merchandise was returned to the owner.
Engine troubles
A 30-year-old Lakebay man was in Superior Court June 14 arrested on a warrant from July 10, 2023.
He was charged with stealing a motor vehicle. Bail was $150,000. He faces five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Court records show Port Orchard police responded May 7, 2023 at 8:42 a.m. to the Lowe’s in the 100 block of Sedgwick Road. An officer noted a flatbed truck that looked like it was having engine trouble. Fence panels were on the truck. The license plate on the truck said it was stolen.
Video showed the truck had been there since May 5 at 10:15 p.m., when it was abandoned. Many items in the truck had been stolen. Officers were able to identify a suspect using images.
Street racing
A 19-year-old Bremerton man was charged with vehicular assault DUI in Superior Court June 17.
Bail was $40,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court papers say Bremerton police responded June 16 at 2 a.m. to the 3800 block of Kitsap Way. A vehicle had left the road at a high rate of speed and crashed into a utility pole. One passenger had slight injuries, another had a leg injury and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and later airlifted to a trauma center.
One passenger said they were street racing against a friend.
