Volunteers are needed to fill an open position on the Bainbridge Ferry Advisory Committee, a citizen group that advocates for ferry riders with Washington State Ferries and other regional bodies. Each ferry-served community a is represented by a FAC. (Read the FAC charter at the bottom of this page)
The FACs will also be playing a role in advising the Transportation Commission on fares and tariffs.
The Kitsap County Commission will be accepting applications for the Bainbridge FAC position through Aug. 21. Applicants must be regular users of the Bainbridge to Seattle ferry.
The new recruit will join sitting FAC members Torin Larson (chair), Christian Cole and Robert Cromwell. Longtime FAC member Martha Burke is stepping down.
“It was time to give someone else a chance,” Burke said.
The future of FACs was uncertain this spring, when Gov. Christine Gregoire proposed the elimination of the committees as part of a “government reform package.” But the Legislature opted to preserve the FACs.
“They are absolutely up and running,” WSF spokesperson Joy Goldenberg said.
An application and description of the Bainbridge FAC position can be obtained from Jan Koske, Kitsap County volunteer services coordinator at (360) 337-4650 or jkoske@co.kitsap.wa.us
An application can also be completed online. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m., Aug. 21.
