Weekend snow causes power outages across Bainbridge | UPDATED DEC. 23

Power crews have restored power to most of Bainbridge and Kitsap County. As restoration work wraps up, Puget Sound Energy is asking customers still without power to call 1-888-225-5773.

Fallen trees and drooping branches have caused power outages across Bainbridge Monday following a weekend of heavy snowfall.

Puget Sound Energy spokesperson Roger Thompson estimated that more than 3,000 Bainbridge residences, and 9,000 Kitsap County residences were without power Monday morning.

By 5 p.m. 2,400 Bainbridge residences and 4,000 Kitsap County residences were still without service. Thompson said PSE hoped to restore power to the majority of its customers Monday evening, but it could take until Tuesday night to return service to every home in the county.

Thompson said the largest concentration of Bainbridge outages was located on the northeast side of the island, while about 350 homes were without service at the island’s south end, along with 150 in the Winslow area.

More than 70 power crews were working in Kitsap County to restore power, but Thompson said restoration was progressing slowly in many areas because of snow and ice on roadways.

“It’s just been a real slog getting our crews out to all the jobs,” he said.

Downed power lines could still be found on several island roads Monday morning.

On Dolphin Drive, at the island’s north end, a city dump truck became snarled in a power line and was sat for several hours in the roadway.

Weather notes

– Public Works has reopened most island roads. Only Koura Road between State Route 305 and Fairmont Lane and Baker Hill Road between Blakely Avenue and Lynwood Center Road remained this week. A map of the city’s snow and ice control plan is available at its here.
