Bainbridge Island’s own West Sound Wildlife Shelter is on track to treat at least 1,600 patients this year, a toast-worthy feat to be sure.
To mark the occasion, the shelter will host it’s second annual “Wild For Wine” fundraising dinner Saturday, Oct. 10 at Clearwater Resort and Casino, featuring a top-notch menu of gourmet foodie fare and custom wine pairings from a list of specially selected local vintners.
“Wild For Wine is an annual fundraising event focused on creating awareness of the local and regional wildlife communities and promoting the well-being of wildlife and its habitat through education, outreach and involvement,” said Cate McCaslin of West Sound Wildlife Shelter. “All proceeds from the fundraiser go to the care of injured, orphaned and sick wildlife and promoting community awareness through education.”
Several of the shelter’s beloved animal ambassadors will be attending the event as well, giving guests a chance to get up close and personal with their host’s target demographic.
“The shelter’s education programs have reached more than 7,000 adults and children already this year,” McCaslin said. “And will likely reach close to 10,000 by year’s end.”
The fundraising feast includes three courses plus dessert.
The first course consists of green hummus, grilled bread with extra-virgin olive oil, garlic chips and tuna poke served on sesame crisp with Open Road Pinot gris.
The second course is grilled lamb loin chop with fingerling potato coins and lavender-madeira sauce and butternut squash ravioli, brown butter emulsion and crispy sage with Natches Heights Two Dancers’ Red Blend.
The third course will be pan-seared salmon with smoked tomato jam and spiced pumpkin puree and roasted mushroom frika with Open Road Malbec.
Desert will feature six pieces of chocolate created by local chocolate artisan ChocMo, paired with more tasty Washington wines TBD.
Tickets are on sale; the cost is $95 per person. Visit www.westsoundwildlife.org to learn more and purchase tickets.
