William “Bill” Cunningham, 93 years young, passed away peacefully on Bainbridge Island on March 13, 2015.
Bill was born to Ralston and Ruth Cunningham in Seattle on Feb. 2, 1922. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1940. He attended two years at the University of Washington before being called to serve in World War II.
He returned home to marry his sweetheart, Mary Jane “Benji” Benham. He completed his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Washington State University. They settled in Bellevue and he began working at Boeing. After raising five children, they relocated to Bainbridge Island.
Bill was involved in his community, making friends and sharing stories everywhere he went. He belonged to Eagle Harbor Congregational Church. He sang in his church choir and Evergreen Choir up until months before his passing.
He had unconditional love for his family; always providing guidance and support, leaving us with memories cherished beyond measure.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Abby. He is survived by his devoted wife, Benji; his loving sister, Gail; children, Gordon, Lynn (Steven), Ralston, Jane (Kenny), and Allan; niece,Virginia; nephew, Richard; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Eagle Harbor Congregational Church or Seabeck Conference Center.
A memorial service was held at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church on Saturday, April 11.
