The city of Bainbridge Island warned Winslow residents Tuesday not to drink water and to refrain from doing laundry because of issues with iron-tainted water.
According to the city, a contractor working on the Wing Point Way reconstruction project used a fire hydrant without the city’s permission and the high water flow caused iron precipitate to be picked up from the bottom of the pipes. Water has reportedly turned yellow for some city water customers, and city officials are asking residents in the area of Ferncliff Avenue east to Cherry and Dingley avenues, and south to Wingpoint Drive, to not drink tap water or do laundry until the water clears.
City workers will flush pipes in the area and the water should return to normal by Tuesday evening.
Officials said the yellow water is not necessarily a health hazard.
