What would a revamped Winlsow Way look like? Find out over the holiday.

Preliminary designs for the reconstruction of Winslow Way will be presented for public viewing and comment during Independence Day festivities in downtown Winslow.

Early in the morning on July 3, engineers will paint an “x-ray of the street,” showing the age, material and deteriorated condition of failing underground utilities – primarily sewer, water and storm drainage – that require the complete reconstruction of Winslow Way, city officials said this week.

During the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association-sponsored July 3 Street Dance and BBQ, posters illustrating the preliminary design will be displayed in a booth on Winslow Way.

During the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce Grand Old Fourth of July celebration, community members who have guided work to date and the designers – landscape architect Barbara Swift and engineer Tom von Schrader – will host the same booth down on Brien Drive.

Members of the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council will also be on hand to show the work of artist Lorna Jordan, who has been retained to prepare an arts master plan for the project.
