Allen D. Casey, age 60, a veteran broadcaster, died Feb. 23 at his home on Bainbridge Island.
He was born July 14, 1943, in Lake Charles, La.
Casey, who in recent years has been a voice actor, is best known in the radio industry for his innovative work at radio stations in Kansas City, Detroit, St. Louis, Miami, Washington D.C. and New York City. In 1971, he became the first radio executive to ever put a “Top 40 format” on FM, a revolutionary move at the time.
In 2003, Casey was named a Broadcasting Legend by Radio and Records Magazine.
Casey is survived by Janie, his wife of 32 years; brother Robert Casey of Dallas; daughter Kelli Nelson of Houston, niece Jenny Casey of Pasadena, Calif., and three granddaughters, Courtney, Shelby and Emilee.
A memorial service will be held March 6; call Bob Shannon at 855-2881 for time and location.
