Anne Keating, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died on June 26. She was 44.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1963, in Fresno, Calif., to parents Dick and Janet Keating, and moved to Sacramento, where she spent her youth playing sports.
She attended Sacramento Country Day School, and spent her spare time playing volleyball, tennis, basketball, soccer, and softball. Anne also had a passion for performing, participating in many school productions. As a teen, she enjoyed spending her summers with family in Laguna Beach, Calif.
After high school, Anne ventured to the University of Puget Sound, where she studied for two years. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at the University of Arizona.
Following graduation, Anne returned to California, where she worked as a paralegal and activist in San Francisco.
Eventually Anne moved to Seattle, where she met her true love and partner, Marie Martel. While in Seattle, she continued working for law firms while enjoying all the facets of the Pacific Northwest.
In 2001, after a quick one-year stay in Marblehead, Mass., Anne and Marie moved to Honolulu to be closer to surf and farther from snow.
In July 2007, Anne was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Ever the force of nature, Anne endured a bone marrow transplant on Jan. 28 and was declared disease-free after the post-transplant treatment. Unfortunately, she lost her life to viral pneumonia in June.
Anne is survived by her partner of 13 years, Marie, of Honolulu; her parents, Dick and Janet; her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Darren Smith and their children, Meghan and Austin; and her grandmother, Leona Stow, all of Bainbridge Island.
An account has been set up to help with medical bills incurred during Anne’s illness. Donations may be made to The Anne Keating Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, 1819 NW Market Street, Seattle WA 98107.
