Arnold John Allen

Arnold John Allen of Poulsbo died Oct. 15. He was 83.

He was born July 18, 1921, in Tacoma to Patrick and Mae Allen, and graduated from Buckley High School in 1939.

On Aug. 5, 1943, he married Patricia Crowder. They raised two sons at Point White on Bainbridge Island.

After 39 years with Pacific Northwest Bell as an engineer, he retired in 1979. He and his wife traveled all over the Northwest, fishing every river as far north as Canada and south to California. Known to have tackle boxes for each kind of fish, he was always prepared at a moment’s notice.

He was a fan of the Huskies and was a season-ticket holder for many years, traveling to the Rose Bowl on more than one occasion. Always the last one to finish a meal, he was a great teller of stories at the table.

He is survived by his sons David of Poulsbo and Les (Shirley) of Everett; and four grandchildren: Amy Allen of Kingston, Andrew Allen of Poulsbo, Danielle Allen of Issaquah, and Marci Allen of Everett.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and daughter-in-law Mary Allen.

A private memorial service will be held Nov. 18 at the Stone Chapel in Poulsbo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Western Washington, Stone Chapter, 12721 30th Ave. NE, Suite 101, Seattle, WA 98125.
