Atlas Dean Crumpton, 57
Atlas Dean Crumpton, age 57, died April 10 at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 15, 1944 in Batesville, Ark., the son of Atlas Hershel and Chiline (Nalley) Crumpton.
He moved to Bainbridge Island at age three months when his father began work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He attended Bainbridge Island High School as a member of the class of 1963.
He worked for Washington State Ferries for nearly 25 years, until taking early retirement in 1994.
He enjoyed Mariners baseball, playing golf at Meadowmeer, hunting, gardening and fishing. He was an accomplished jewelry-maker, woodcarver and painter.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Leanne (Thomas) Crumpton of Bainbridge Island; two sons, David Dean Crumpton, of Auburn and Terry Crumpton of Renton; stepdaughter, Lori Hellstrom of San Francisco, Calif.; brothers Joe of Kent, Robert of West Bremerton, and Steve of Bothel; sisters, Barbara Shipman of Sequim, Sarah Blossom-Hatrick of Port Ludlow, and Judy Crumpton of Bainbridge Island; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were held April 14 at Port Madison Lutheran Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.
