Aurel Gavrila Lungu passed peacefully away in his home on April 10, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was 84 years of age. He was born on March 18, 1933 in Furceni, Romania to Tudosia and Gavrila Lungu.
Aurel worked as a mechanical engineer for most of his life. In 1970 he emigrated to the United States and later brought his immediate family to join him. Aurel loved to travel and spent the latter part of his life on a spiritual journey taking him to all corners of the earth. His spiritual quest brought him peace, understanding and a closeness to his creator. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker. He settled on Bainbridge Island the last 10 years of his life to be closer to his family.
He is survived by his son Michael Lungu and daughter in law Karla Lungu of Blaine, Wa, daughter Adriana Lungu and son in law Andrew Lim of Bainbridge Island, WA, sister Victoria Lungu of Queens, NY, brother Miron Lungu and sister in law Rela Lungu of Dublin, CA, and ex-wife Netuta Matasa of Hollywood, FL. He also leaves behind his granddaughters Maya and Zoe Lim of Bainbridge Island, Jenica and Mikayla Lungu of Blain WA, and grandsons Aaron Lungu of Blaine, WA and Steven Torres of Lansing, Michigan. He also leaves behind his nieces Aurelia Roman of NYC, NY, Daniela Lungu of Pleasanton CA., nephew Gabriel Lungu of Dublin CA and great-granddaughters Presley and Kayden Torres of Lansing, Michigan. He’s preceded in death by his mother Tudosia Lungu and father Gavrila Lungu.
A private memorial will be held on May 20th on Bainbridge Island. Special thanks to Dr. Hurlow and staff at Swedish Primary Care and Dr. Willerford and staff at Harrison Oncology for their excellent care of Aurel. He will be dearly missed.
