Blair Spalding

Blair William Spalding, former long-time resident of Bainbridge Island, died on Sept. 8, 2007. He was 77.

He was born in Washougal, Wash., on March 18, 1931. He had friends everywhere he went, and those who had the honor of knowing h loved him.

Spalding enjoyed living in both Yuma, Ariz., and Copper Center, Alaska. His girlfriend of some 20 years, Lilyan also enjoyed her time with him.

Blair loved the outdoors, working with his hands, meeting new people, harassing a few he knew, seeing new things and his family.

He served his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was a commercial fisherman as a young man on the Columbia River and also later in life in Alaska. While living on Bainbridge Island, he worked for Brandy’s Home Furnishings and Williamson Oil. Blair was also known for his “Uglies.”

He is survived by his children, William Roy, Douglas Allen, Catherine Marie and Blair Levi; grandchildren Mindy, Maegan, Amanda, Zeke, Liam and Hillary; and great-grandchildren Jaedyn, Nolan and Sophia.
