Longtime Bainbridge Island resident Caren C. Mershon, 86, died May 4.

She was born Feb. 9, 1918, daughter of Hans and Catherine Christian. She lived in Pacifica Palisades, Calif., before coming to Bainbridge Island.

She was active with Friends of the Library and various book clubs and enjoyed embroidery, classical music concerts, reading and supporting many local charities.

She was preceded in death by husband Boies Mershon in 1983.
