Doris A. Smith, age 75, died May 22 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 12, 1926 in Glencoe, Ill. to Albert and Grace (Payne) Norton.

She moved to California when she was 25 and loved it, especially Lake Tahoe. In 1996, she moved to Bainbridge Island to be near her daughters, Sandra Grace and Linda Baker.

She enjoyed cooking, preparing wonderful dishes for her family and friends (her personal favorite was corn bread and buttermilk). She also enjoyed shopping and going on long drives.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra and Linda, both of Bainbridge Island; brothers Charles East of North Carolina, Robert Endress of Georgia and Billy East of Alabama; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She will be cremated and buried in the family plot in Alabama.
