Meadowmeer resident E. Lorraine Butler, age 80, died Oct. 9 at Island Health and Rehalitation Center after a long illness.
Born in Stockton, Calif., she was raised in Worcester, Mass., where she graduated from North High School and attended business school. She married her husband, Hervey Butler, there in 1942.
After spending a summer in a fire watchtower in Washington state, the couple moved to Chevy Chase, Md., where they both served for many years with the Central Intelligence Agency.
The couple retired in the 1970s to Cape Coral, Fla., where she enjoyed bridge and golf, and was a volunteer in the emergency room of the local hospital.
After the death of her husband in 1982, she moved to Bainbridge in 1984 to be near her sister and family.
She is survived by her sister, Marian Pratt of Bainbridge, as well as several nephews and their families: Douglas and Randy Pratt of Seattle, David Pratt and Amy Hiatt of Port Townsend, and Dana and Julia Pratt of Bellevue.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one nephew, Donald Pratt, husband of Mary Woodward of Rolling Bay.
She was cremated at her request. The date and time of services will be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bainbridge Island Ambulance Association, in recognition of their assistance to the family.
