Edith Dugan Avitabile

Edith C. Dugan “Edie” Avitabile, 91, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Jan. 27 in Largo, Fla.

She was born in New York City and moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1975, from Hackensack, N.J.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was past president of the Ladies of Knights of Columbus, St. Petersburg Council.

She retired after 20 years of service as a loan and certification clerk for Chase Manhattan Bank.

During World War II, she worked for Gruman, manufacturing ammunition shells.

She enjoyed bingo, dancing, playing cards, music, going to Las Vegas and going on cruises.

She is survived by her son John J. “Jack” Dugan of Bainbridge Island; daughters Mary Ellen Martino and Eleanor V. Rachon, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kathleen C. Benson of Indian Shores, Fla. and Barbara E. Butler of New York City; and 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
