Former Bainbridge Island resident Elanora Jane Cogdell, died Oct. 9 in Chewelah, Wash.

She was born Nov. 3, 1931 in Bismark, N.D., to Sarah and John Ellwein.

She married Billy Jo Cogdell on Jan. 29, 1949 in Sunnyside, Wash. They raised four children: Ronald James, Johnny Lee, Jennifer Jo, and Cindy Kay.

She spent many years in Washington, living in communities that included Bainbridge, Spokane and Kennewick, before settling in Chewelah in 1993.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time at her church, and being with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed animals, and lent a helping hand to those in need.

She is survived by brothers Lee Ellwein and Hubert Ellwein; son Ronald Cogdell and daughters Jennifer McCoy and Cindy Hetherington; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and her son John. Services will be held at 2 pm. Oct. 18 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chelewah.
