Island native Elizabeth “Betty” Moore, age 81, died July 24 in Yakima.
She was born Sept. 15, 1920 on Bainbridge Island in the area then known as Creosote, to Ada and Jacob Book.
She was raised on Bainbridge and graduated from WSU in 1942 with honors and a major in music.
In 1946, she married Tom Moore in Seattle. In 1951, the couple moved to Yakima, where she taught piano for some 14 years after her children were grown.

During their 65 years of marriage, she and her husband travelled extensively. They were members of the Yakima Boat Club and Shelter Bay Yacht Club of LaConner, Wa.
She loved camping, and in later years enjoyed boating, fishing and catching Dungeness crab in the San Juan and Gulf islands.
She was known for her musical talent, as well as her cooking. When she was not playing bridge, she enjoyed reading books and gardening, and was a founding member of the Fifth Avenue Series in Seattle.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter Pamela (Robert) Weigand of Spokane; son Richard (Neita) of San Antonio, Tex.; grandchildren Heather and Ryan Stanley; and two sisters, Peggy Houck and Florence Chavanu.
