Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Hall, of Bainbridge Island, died peacefully on July 15 in Seattle. She was 83.
Betty was a life-long resident of Bainbridge Island, where she was born on Aug. 15, 1924, graduated from Bainbridge High School and raised her family. After the close of the family business, Electricraft, which was a premier hi-fi store of its time, Betty began a long career in real estate, working at Perlatti Realty where she became a broker. She eventually opened her own real estate firm, Hall & Co.
Betty was a loving, caring and generous person who always saw the best in people. Her warmth and humor inspired many, and her funky house on Sunrise Drive – which she shared with her friend and companion John Adams – was a welcoming gathering place for family and friends.
Betty had a love of sailing, combing the beaches for agates, and gardening. She was never happier than when she was working in the garden with her hands deep in the dirt. She will always be remembered for her unique and colorful character and uncommon wit and wisdom.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Ada Taft Runchey, and her brother Oliver “Sonny” Runchey. She is survived by her children, Karla Scannell, Calvin S. (Diane) Hall IV and Andra Hall; her sisters, Peggy (Ted) Treanor (husband Ted) and Barbara Lavery; and many grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A garden party will be held at noon on Aug. 9 at her daughter Andra Hall’s home in Seattle.
