Evelyn Boyd died May 17 at Marine Courte in Bremerton, after struggling with the effects of Alzheimers disease. She was 83.

Evelyn was born on Washington’s birthday, 1927, to William and Alberta Reed in Kent, Ohio. In 1943, she married Dan Boyd, who was home recovering from injuries suffered at Guadalcanal.

Dan and Evelyn moved to Bainbridge Island in 1954, where they raised their family at their home on Olympus Beach. Evelyn was an accomplished painter, a member of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, and served as a docent at the Seattle Art Museum. She loved to travel, visiting more than 40 countries and living in Mexico.

She was preceded in death by husband Dan in 2004.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Karen Boyd and Martha Bayley, and grandsons Reed and Adam Knappe.

Her burial will be at Kane Cemetery at Port Madison, at 2 p.m. on May 24.
