Evelyn Lewis Rico, 82, a longtime resident of Bainbridge Island, passed away April 11, surrounded by her family at the Talbot Rehabilitation Center in Renton.
She was born May 1, 1922, in Deroche, B.C. to Rosalie Anna and Francis Lewis.
She and her husband Martin Rico ran a berry farm on Tolo Road for many years. Many of their 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren grew up on the island, picking berries during summers.
For the better part of the last 10 years, Evelyn lived with her daughter Gloria and son-in-law Paul.
She enjoyed knitting, beading and making dreamcatchers.
Many of her finished products were given as gifts to family and friends.
She is survived by four children, Gloria Sorrell of Kent, Frances White of Kent, Richard Rico of Arlington, and Eleana Peterson of Sumner; and by two sisters, Winnifred Williams, of Chilliwack, B.C., and Verna Coleman of Yakima.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, and by four children.
The family is holding a “celebration of life” this weekend in her memory.
