The Rev. George Thompson Mackey, age 93, died Sept. 13 in Seattle.
A native of Donegal, Ireland, he moved to Ontario, Canada at age 13 and was a 1937 graduate of Bishop’s University in Quebec.
He was ordained in the Anglican Church of Canada in 1937 and served for five years before becoming a rector of St. Patrick’s Anglican Church in Guelph, Ontario.
In 1945 he married Daphne Halpin in Guelph. In 1947, he and his wife moved to the United States, where he served in the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis and the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky until his retirement in 1979.
In Louisville, he served on the board of the King’s Daughters and Sons Homes and as a trustee of the Episcopal Church Home. He was a member of the Louisville Kiwanis Club since 1947.
He and his wife moved to Bainbridge Island in 1999.
He is survived by his wife Daphne of Bainbridge Island; his son Kevin Mackey and daughter-in-law Haydee Mackey of New Orleans, La.; his daughter Daphne Mackey Thompson and son-in-law George Thompson of Federal Way; his granddaughter Caroline Elizabeth Thompson of Federal Way; and two brothers, David Mackey of Hamilton, Ontario and Leslie Mackey of New York, NY.
There will be a memorial service 10:30 a.m. Sept. 21 at St. Barnabas Church and at St. James Church in Pewee Valley, Kentucky, with interment at St. James Church.
