Glenn Winters

Glenn Winters died as a result of a stroke on Jan. 13.

Born Oct. 31, 1926 in Seattle at Ballard General Hospital, Glenn was the only child of Gordon G. Muenz and Irene Muenz.

About the time he was 16 years old, the family relocated to Bainbridge Island. His father was a meat cutter on Bainbridge Island at the old Seabold store near the north end of the island.

He attended Bainbridge High School and worked in a number of service stations on the island during his teenage years. Shortly after World War II, he delivered oil for Williamson Oil and Heating until he began to operate the Terminal Shell station next to the Winslow ferry dock. In the early 1960s, he purchased the Head of the Bay Shell where he operated the service station and a towing business for the next 20 years.

Winters was involved in a number of organizations on Bainbridge Island including the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, Bainbridge Ambulance Association, Bainbridge Sportman’s Club, Winslow Chamber of Commerce, Helpline House of Bainbridge Island and the Poulsbo Eagles. Glenn leaves his 98 year old mother, Irene Winburn, two daughters, Louise McNulty of Edmonds and Frances Phillips of Bainbridge, three grandchildren, Kimberly Lind, Kellie McNulty and Matthew Phillips, and four great grandchildren.
