Grayce Lorayne Kelly, of East Bremerton, died July 23, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, after a brief illness. She was 71.
She was born Grayce Strand on Aug. 17, 1930 in Rolla, N.D., to Rosella and Carl Strand. She moved at a young age to Bremerton, where her father was employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1948.
After high school, she worked in the classified department of the Bremerton Sun newspaper. She moved to Tacoma in the mid-1960s, where she worked for the News Tribune for 15 years.
She moved back to Bremerton in the early 1990s, and began working for the Kitsap Newspaper Group working for nearly every office the company has on the peninsula. She filled in at the Review’s front desk many times.
She enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. She traveled regularly to visit family or to historical U.S. cities, or ones with thriving arts communities.
She volunteered for Bremerton cultural groups, and enjoyed ushering at the Admiral Theatre. She was a member of the West Sound Arts Council and volunteered at the Kitsap County Historical Society, Evergreen Children’s Theater, Aurora Valentinetti Puppet Museum and at Poulsbo’s Marine Science Center.
She is survived by a son, Timm Kelly of Milton; daughters Pam Kelly of North Redington Beach, Fla., and Linda O’Neill of Fife; and brothers, Clifford Strand of Central Kitsap, and Carl Strand of Springfield, Ill., and four grandchildren Brock, Dalton, Nicole and Christopher. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Strand.
Service were July 26 at Miller Woodlawn funeral home.
