Henry G. Noble

Henry G. Noble of Port Townsend died March 6.

He was born Jan. 6, 1938 in Dixon, Ill., to Utley Noble and Emma Jane (Godfrey) Noble.

He attended the University of Illinois and earned a bachelor’s degree in finance. From 1959-1963, he served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence specialist. After discharge from the Army, he launched a career in banking and finance in Chicago, Ill.

He married Magnolia Kahn in 1967, and they were married until 1989. After the birth of his two children, Edward and Kirsten, he moved his family to Seattle to pursue a career real estate investment.

In 1992, he took part in the first Peace Corps outreach project in the former Soviet Union. There he met Nina Artamanova, whom he married in Vladivostok in 1995.

He took up residence in Port Townsend, and purchased the Port Townsend Athletic Club, of which he was proprietor until his death.

He fell in love with the mountains and waterways of the Pacific Northwest while he was stationed in Seattle with the Army; over the years he enjoyed hiking, climbing, skiing, sailing and kayaking with his family and friends. Summitting Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Hood, circumnavigating Vancouver Island and crossing the Pacific by sailboat to Hawaii were among his accomplishments.

He was an avid World War II and Russian history buff, and enjoyed Russian art and classical music.

He is survived by his wife Nina of Port Townsend, and former wife Magnolia Noble of Seattle; son Edward Noble of Seattle, and daughter Kirsten (Robert) Murphy of Seattle; mother Emma Jane Noble; and brother Utley Noble, Dixon, Ill., and sister Jan Noble, Rockford, Ill.
