Jacqueline Rita Schneider

Long-time Bainbridge Island resident, Jacqueline “Jacquie” Rita Schneider passed away on October 30, 2024, at age 96. She is pre-deceased by Robert Schneider, her loving husband of over 66 years. Jacquie is survived by her daughter Mary Anne Yanagimachi; son Bill Schneider and daughter-in-law Katherine; daughter Margaret Malowney and son-in-law Stephen; daughter Madeleine Stevens and son-in-law Dana; grandchildren Robert Malowney and wife Brittany; Nick Yanagimachi; Monica Malowney and husband Hugo Hivernat; Teagan Schneider; and great-grandsons Maksym Malowney and Thomas Malowney Hivernat.

Jacquie was born in Everett, Washington and completed Primary and Secondary school there. After graduating from high school, Jacquie enrolled in Seattle University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a teaching credential. While attending Seattle University, Jacquie met the love of her life, Robert. Following her college graduation, Jacquie taught school in southwest Washington and in 1952, Jacquie and Robert were married. Shortly after their marriage, the young couple moved out of state to Corona, California where Jacquie taught Physical Education before making a second move to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and welcoming their first child, Mary Anne.

Jacquie and Robert returned to Washington shortly after Mary Anne was born and settled in Lake Hills, Bellevue, Washington. Jacquie had three more children, Bill, Margaret and Madeleine before moving to Bainbridge Island in 1969.

Jacquie was a member of Saint Cecilia’s parish for over 55 years and participated in many parish activities, including serving as a Eucharistic minister delivering communion to local seniors. Jacquie had a wonderful sense of humor and an active social life. She enjoyed quilting with friends, was a skilled bridge player and liked to garden. She participated in an arboretum club and was enthusiastic about Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging). She cherished her time with family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

There will be a Mass of the Resurrection for Jacquie on Wednesday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church followed by a reception in the church hall.
