home in Port Madison on Oct. 2. He was 74.
He was born in Seattle on June 24, 1935, grew up on Bainbridge Island, and graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1953.
Jim was a member of the Air National Guard and studied history and medicine at the University of Washington.
Jim owned Usher Medical Inc., a medical electronic business in Portland, Ore. until 1970. Jim and his wife Marilyn Usher moved back to Washington in 1978 and lived for several years in Spokane, then Edmonds, where Jim sold real estate. In 1989, he moved back to Bainbridge where he had wanted to live since living on the island as a small child.
Jim was past president of the McCune Family Association with members nationwide. He was also a board member and past president of the Bainbridge Island Historical Society and was instrumental in the museum’s move to Winslow. He also served as an editorial adviser for the pictorial island history book “Picture Bainbridge.”
Most recently, Jim worked for the Port Madison Water Company as system manager for approximately 15 years. He will be missed by his family and by many friends.
He is preceded in death by son Michael Patrick. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Sherry L. Grady and granddaughters Haley Grady, of Bremerton, and Staunzie Grady of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of James’ life will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 24, at 15575 Washington Ave. N.E. Memorials may be made to the Bainbridge Island Historical Society or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
