James William Peyton IV

Bainbridge Island resident, James William Peyton IV, age 74, died at his home of cancer on Feb. 10.

He was born June 22, 1929 in Shreveport, La., son of James William Peyton III and Sarah (Stewart) Peyton.

At a young age, he moved to Newport Beach, Calif., where his family started a shipbuilding business called Peyton Boatworks during the war years.

After graduating from Newport Harbor High in 1951, he went on to Willamette University in Salem, Ore., where he earned a degree in business administration.

Following military service in Korea, he returned to Southern California and entered business with his uncles. Together, they owned and operated mobile home parks, including El Morro Village in Laguna Beach, from 1953 until retiring in 1999.

He and his wife Louanne have lived on Bainbridge Island for the past few years.

As an active member of his community, he served as a member of the Newport-Mesa school board for ten years. Next to spending time with his family, he enjoyed boating more than anything.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louanne (Taylor) Peyton, Bainbridge Island; three daughters, Susie Peyton, Garden Grove, Calif.; Becky Weinbaum, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Lisa Hale, Riverside, Calif.; one brother, Randall S. Peyton, Burbank, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

There will be a private memorial service at the family home on a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Kass Funeral Home.
