Jason Weisser

Jason L. Weisser, a resident of Bainbridge Island from 1995 to 2001, died peacefully at his Duvall home on Feb. 22. He was 59.

Born in 1949 in New York City, his education included a Fulbright scholarship from Alfred University to the Sorbonne in Paris, France; a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Montana; and a PhD in clinical psychology from Mississippi State University.

His career path – as varied and interesting as the man himself – included a psychology practice specializing in children and adolescents; he was also a director and consultant for HMO mental health programs on a national level.

After moving to Bainbridge, and inspired by his expertise in wine and culinary arts, he founded Europa West restaurant in downtown Winslow. He then directed his talents toward establishing his career as a technology architect. He eventually landed in the international arena in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, working for Microsoft in Paris and then for IBM and State Street Bank.

In his many travels for work and pleasure he rediscovered Europe and a love of ice climbing in the Northern Alps.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Illich-Weisser; his son, Morgan, 22; daughter Hannah, 19; his mother, Janet; brothers Michael and Alan; and his extended family and circle of loving friends.

A memorial service and reception will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at the family’s Duvall home. Friends are encouraged to contact Barton Family Funeral Services at (888) 878-2159 for information and directions.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Attn: Dr. Merrill Kies, Head and Neck Oncology, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-1402.
