Jennievee Isabel Kelly, age 89, of Bainbridge Island, died Aug. 9 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was born Dec. 15, 1912, in Ypsilanti, N.D., to Julius and Mary (Angen) Ukestad. She was a 1930 graduate of Ypsilanti High School.
On May 24, 1934, she married Owen A. Kelly in Jamestown, N.D.
In the early 1940s, they moved to Rolling Bay on Bainbridge Island, where she worked as a cook at Messenger House Nursing Home from 1950-74.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cultivating flowers and knitting caps for premature babies born at Harrison Hospital. She was an active member of Port Madison Lutheran Church.
She is survived by three sons, Donald Kelly and his wife, Julie, of Kingston, Owen “Buster” Kelly and his wife, Maureen, of Bremerton, and David Kelly of Rolling Bay; two daughters, Patricia Yeo and her husband Bill, and Lorretta Short and her husband Dave, all of Bainbridge; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Ken Gehlhar of Jamestown, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Ukestad of North Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959; brothers Loyal, Manroy and James; sisters Ianca Larson and Bertha Gehlhar; and half-brothers Marcus and David Ukestad.
Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Port Madison Lutheran Church. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery at Port Blakely.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Port Madison Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
