Joanna Shane “Jo” Black, 17, of Bainbridge Island died peacefully May 2 at her home with her family.

She was born July 23, 1988, in Los Angeles, Calif.

She enjoyed photography, water polo, swimming and yoga. Her dream was to provide a safe haven for women and children of abuse.

She is survived by her mother, Suzanne Black; sisters Danielle and Rebecca; and family friend Jeff Laveson.

Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heifer International Foundation, 1015 Louisiana St., P.O. Box 727, Little Rock, AR 72203.
