Joanne Shepherd died Nov. 29, 2017.

She was born in Caldwell, Idaho. She attended Cascade College in Portland and received her M.A. from Seattle Pacific University.

Joanne spent 30 long years as an elementary teacher in the Bainbridge Island School District. She began at Commodore in 1961, moved over to Blakely, then Ordway in the first and second grades. After retirement, she worked with her husband Jim at his shop, and together they worked their farm in Kingston. Joanne was a very outdoor gal who loved to fish and enjoyed traveling to their cabin in Montana.

Joanne is survived by her husband Jim Shepherd; daughter Suzanne Macpherson; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She had wonderful caregivers at the end of her life, including Jim’s daughter Sherry Ljunggren, her daughter Amanda, caregivers Lindsay, Sara, Rene’ and Angie; angels who were at her side to ease her passing.
