On Saturday, June 22, 2019, John Biddle Sinclair of Bainbridge Island, WA, formally of Riverside, CT and Duxbury, MA, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 83. John was born on November 12, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Mary Sinclair. He received a BA degree from Colgate University in 1957 and enjoyed a successful career in corporate banking.
John had a life-long passion for sailing from which he enjoyed many ocean races and cruises with friends and family. In 1987, he joined a crew of five and sailed across the Atlantic to Ireland. For many years, John was a member and flag officer of the Riverside Yacht Club, Riverside, CT and served as Commodore from 1979-81. In later years, John taught himself to paint and combined his love of the outdoors to create many beautiful seascapes and landscapes. A strong supporter of community service, John served as Treasurer for the Bainbridge Island Public Library, and as Treasurer of the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center. John had a warm and compassionate spirit and was a loyal and trusted friend to many.
He is survived by his beloved wife Lynn, his son John Jr. and wife Karen, son David and wife Barbara, daughter Anne and husband Hans Griesser; his grandchildren Emily Sinclair, Ian Sinclair and wife Elizabeth, John Sinclair III, Elizabeth S. Sinclair, Johan Griesser, Adalynn Griesser; and great-granddaughter Ada Sinclair. In addition, he is survived by his brother David M. Sinclair and wife Susan, and many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, and sisters Sylvia and Polly.
A Celebration of Life gathering honoring John Sinclair will take place at Grace Episcopal Church, Bainbridge Island at 3:00pm on September 7, 2019
