Kenneth “Dan” Viles

Poulsbo resident Kenneth “Dan” Viles, 47, died July 29 at his home.

He was born Aug. 3, 1955 in Portland, Ore., and graduated from Hudson Bay High School in Vancouver, Wash., in 1973.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1974 and served for 20 years, retiring as a senior chief petty officer in 1994. He was awarded the Navy Commendation medal and Navy Achievement medal with one star.

He married Virginia Aguilar in Olongapo City, Philippines in 1976.

He was maintenance supervisor for Bainbridge Asset Management Corporation, a property management firm, for two years, and served other places as a maintenance worker and handy man.

He enjoyed fishing and taking his grandchildren to the movies. He was an excellent craftsman and woodworker.

He is survived by his wife Virginia; parents Kenneth and Myrna (Roberts) Viles of LaCenter; son Jessie (Gretchen) Viles of Poulsbo; daughters Mary Ann Aguilar of Jersey City, N.J., Jennifer Viles of Poulsbo, and Susan (Brandon) DeSantos of Bremerton; brother Steven (Stacy) Viles of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters Beverly (Gregg) Peck of Hazel Dell, Wash., and Joan (Jon) Artz of West Richland, Wash.; and grandchildren Nathaniel Viles and Breanna DeSantos.

A committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
